Embodying the Word as Resistance:  A Preaching and Teaching Lab

Are you a spiritual leader struggling to find the words to preach and teach liberation in a predominately white Christian congregation in these times of genocide abroad and tyranny at home? A white Christian showing up to protests in your community, wondering what your sacred texts have to say about surviving – even thriving – in the face of empire? A white Christian hungry for a good word to keep you grounded as systems of power do their best to destabilize us and turn us against each other?

Drawing on the 5-plus years of learnings from “The Word Is Resistance” podcast for white Christians committed to collective liberation, the Liberating Lineages Collective is launching a practice community for white Christian leaders to explore ways of interpreting Christian scriptures that get all of us free, and nourish and develop practices for building up a new world together.

Join this intentional community of practice as we journey through the Revised Common Lectionary’s selections in the gospel of Luke, exploring what these texts have to say to white Christian communities in particular about resisting empire in our everyday lives and nourishing our people for the work of justice and liberation. We welcome all who feel called to participate and acknowledge the limits of our experience as a facilitator team comprised of people of European descent/white people.

Offerings you’ll engage in as part of this cohort:

  • Tools for all of us to reclaim our stories and re-tell them to nourish our resistance against white supremacy and our work for collective liberation.
  • Resources for preaching, worship, teaching, and leading communities that will help you challenge white supremacy and embolden your community for action
  • Opportunities to connect and collaborate with other white Christians drawing on Christian sacred texts for the work of liberation
