As summer weather draws so many of us outside to dance with a whole host of sky, water, and plant relatives, the Revised Common Lectionary journeys with Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew as he shares stories and works wonders rooted in his relationship with the natural world. Join members of the Liberating Lineages Collective as we dig into the lectionary gospel texts from July 12 – August 16, sharing weekly resources to help us explore what Jesus’ land-based parables and miracles have to teach us about building an alternative world of abundance and care in the midst of the daily realities of living under empire.
Though created with white Christians in mind, these resources are for everyone who is curious about a different way of approaching these stories that have historically been used to harm and exclude. Sign up if this is you!
Resources will include:
- New weekly podcasts on each gospel text, featuring members of the Liberating Lineages Collective (remember “The Word Is Resistance?” If you’re still subscribed, the new episodes will come right to you!);
- Exclusive tidbits and prompts for text interpretation from our Collective members;
- Weekly worship resources, including common liturgical elements and creative rituals
- Links to past “The Word Is Resistance” podcasts on these texts;
- Music, visual art, and quotes/poems
- And more!
(Also note, if you’ve decided to focus on the Genesis or Romans passages during this lectionary season, you can find past reflections on those texts in this TWIR series on Genesis and this TWIR series on Romans. Transcripts available here.)
As always, our text work will be rooted in collective liberation and committed to dismantling fascist/imperialist, antisemitic, white supremacist, and other harmful readings of these stories.
Additionally, we’ll be hosting an informal gathering on Wednesday, July 29 at 5pm PT / 8pm ET to hear from you about how this series is landing in your world, how you are interpreting these texts in the context of your own community, and what’s on your mind as you continue unpacking these rich parables and miracle stories. We can’t wait to see you there!
